Cloisonné

Restoration of a cloisonné glass by Federico Vidal Puig owned by a private collector. As far as we currently know, the objects produced using this technique were only made at the beginning of the 20th century by the Vidal furniture company and by the “Cloisonné Glass Co.” in London.

There are very few works preserved that were made using this method and all of them are very fragile due to the weakness of the materials used. Intervention on that type of objects tends to be slow and complex process that nevertheless presents exciting challenge for conservators.

The workshop has worked on the restoration of some of cloisonné windows and has collaborated in several publications investigating the history of workshops, technology and the characterization of the materials used.
